Third Summer Course on Indonesian Education and Culture
Inclusive Education Camp: Removing Barriers in the Way of Learning
Organized by:
Master Program of History, Faculty of Humanities, Universitas Diponegoro
23-28 September 2026
Background
Third Summer Course is a continuation of Summer Course II, held by the Master’s Program in History, Faculty of Humanities, Diponegoro University in 2018, as part of an ongoing collaboration with the Graduate School of Education and Human Development, Nagoya University, which has been running since 2017. In this year’s edition, we are committed to expanding the scope of collaboration beyond our existing partner to include universities across Southeast Asia and international NGOs concerned with inclusive education and Indonesian culture. Through this program, we aim to promote the idea that education is for all, free from barriers of age, physical limitation, socioeconomic status, or cultural background. This activity fosters a culture in which all students learn together, cultivating a sense of belonging and mutual respect while preparing them for life in an inclusive society.
Objectives
- To provide field-based learning on inclusive education policies and practices in Semarang, comparing regular and special-needs schools, while strengthening international academic collaboration.
- To build understanding of how formal, informal, and nonformal education work together to support inclusive education, including the historical accessibility of cultural heritage for persons with disabilities.
- To remove barriers of age, physical limitation, socioeconomic status, and culture in access to education, including its cultural and social dimensions, through engagement with Javanese arts and traditions as a shared space open to all.
