Doctoral of History Study Program

PROFILE

Located in Semarang which is one of the important trading in the archipelago, the Doctoral of History Study Program, Faculty of Humanities, Diponegoro University (PSDS FIB UNDIP) is a reference for efforts to develop historical studies, especially maritime history and national integration. The Study Program which has been established since 2017 has indeed specialized in the study of maritime history and national integration and has contributed to solve the nation’s actual issues through a historical perspective. The existence of PSDS FIB UNDIP is a necessity as a modern higher education institution that is required to always adapt to the development of science and technology, as well as the needs of the community as stakeholders and users of graduates.

Based on the main competencies, the profiles of PSDS FIB UNDIP graduates include researchers, educators (teachers or lecturers), expert staff of state higher institutions, and public policy analysts in the socio-cultural field. For this reason, the learning series is held for six semesters based on a structured curriculum. PSDS FIB UNDIP provides several courses that help students to expend their specialization and explore relevant topics and theories. Theoretical courses can be completed in two semesters, while the preparation of a dissertation including proposals, qualifications, research and publications can be completed in the last four semesters under the guidance of a lecturer. With this curriculum, PSDS FIB UNDIP graduates are expected to have good theoretical and practical abilities, so that he can become a doctor of history who has high competence in the study of maritime history and national integration. To respond to the challenges and developments of science and technology as well as the needs of the community, the Study Program also periodically reviews the curriculum, so that it is relevant to existing conditions.

Become Doctoral of History Study Program especially Maritime History and National Integration at the forefront of Indonesia in 2022 and leading in Southeast Asia in 2027.

  • To develop Indonesian history research, especially Maritime History and National Integration issue.
  • To develop historical critical thinking to help overcome the nation’s actual problems as the implementation of community service.
  • To implementing academic and institutional that can support the realization of a quality education, research, and community service at the national and international levels.

LEARNING SUPPORT FACILITIES

PSDS FIB UNDIP is supported by qualified Human Resources (HR), with four professors and eight doctors. Almost all lecturers have national and international recognition. They also have a good track record in research and publication. Research conducted by teaching staff is generally competitive research obtained through open competition at both national and international levels. Active in research and publication is the basis for the development of learning at the PSDS FIB UNDIP which is oriented on research results (research-based teaching). Lecture activities emphasize on developing student capacity as independent scholars, so that the learning process is always based on class discussions with feedback from lecturers to students, vice versa. Furthermore, PSDS FIB UNDIP students also get other learning experiences through routine programs such as Visiting Professors, Public Lectures, Workshops, Summer Courses, which bring in experts from within and outside the country.

The learning process is also supported by representative infrastructure and can be easily accessed by all academics. At this time, distance learning (PJJ) is held to ensure the learning process continues in the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic. Optimizing subscribed e-resources such as e-books, journals, newspapers, reports, and so on, it makes it easier for students to carry out independent learning activities, structured, and directed. The Study Program also actively supports discussion activities between students that discuss various actual issues in the nation’s history, especially in maritime aspects and national integration.

RESEARCH AND PUBLICATION OPPORTUNITIES

PSDS FIB Undip students have diverse affiliation and professional backgrounds as well as a high level of productivity in academic activities, especially research and dissemination of research results, in discussion forums, seminars, conferences, and publications. Students have access to apply for doctoral research funding through a competition scheme that can be submitted annually with an average funding duration of two years (multi years). The competition scheme, such as, comes from the Ministry of Education and Culture of the Republic of Indonesia, the Education Fund Management Institute (LPDP), and internal UNDIP.

 

As an effort to disseminate research results, students are also given a publication platform through the Journal of Maritime Studies and National Integration (JMSNI). The journal has been indexed by SINTA with the 3rd rank and is projected to become a reputable international journal. Of course, this Study Program continues to improve its performance and reputation at the national and international levels with various efforts. In the learning field, the Study Program also optimizes the World Class University program to open broad academic insights and relationships from students, in the end they are able to improve their competence well. Meanwhile, in research, the Study Program encourages the implementation of research collaborations through Joint Research and Publications. All of this is done to realize the competence of graduates are superior and able to respond national and global challenges.
